Strings
A question that often crops up is that you don't know what type or brand of strings are on the instrument. Here some pictures of the most common strings with descriptions.
Corelli
The picture shows REF 360 F, REF 360 M, REF 370 M and REF 380 M. The F means forte, M means medium. Moreover there exists TX (extra strong). Conversely as with the Thomastik-Spirocore strings here is medium the thinnest type. REF 360 are for solo tuning, the others for normal tuning. The upper ends of the strings single colours which have the following meanings:

Some of these exist in the thicknesses dünn (thin) und dick (thick); dünn is between Orchestra and Solo.
Thomastik
In the picture: Präzision, Superflexible, Dominant, and Spirocore. The upper ends have the same colour as the lower in the regular thickness - mittel or medium. The solo strings have yellow and the Spirocore intermediate thickness weich (soft) purple ends (the same colour as the lower ends of Dominant). The designation mittel oder medium of the Spirocore denotes the strongest (thickest) variant! The intermediate thickness, between mittel und solo, is called weich.
